A symposium in honour of two pioneers

The Ahuja Bajaj Symposium is dedicated to Padma Shri Late Prof. M.M.S. Ahuja and Padma Bhushan Prof. J.S. Bajaj — visionary leaders whose monumental contributions laid the foundation of diabetes care and research in India.

To hold a symposium in their honour reflects a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in diabetes and metabolic diseases.

Former Head, Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Dean, All India Institute of Medical Sciences

Prof. Ahuja played a key role in founding the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (1972) and the Hormone Foundation, India. Founding editor of the International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries, he was also chief editor of the monumental 'Progress in Medicine' series documenting scientific work on Indian medicine.

Prof. Bajaj was honorary physician to the President of India (1977–82 and 1987–92) and consultant physician to the Prime Minister (1991–96). He received an honorary Doctorate of Medicine from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm (1985). He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, and a founder Fellow of the Indian College of Physicians.

National Diabetes, Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation (N-DOC)

Established in 2009 under the leadership of Dr. Anoop Misra, N-DOC is a not-for-profit organisation with an illustrious governing body and a multidisciplinary research team of diabetologists, endocrinologists, geneticists, anthropologists, public-health experts, statisticians and nutritionists. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, it runs statutory audits in India and submits FCRA-audited accounts.

Prof. Misra is Chairman, Fortis-C-DOC Centre of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Endocrinology, New Delhi, and Director of the National Diabetes, Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation (N-DOC) and Diabetes Foundation (India). With more than 45 years in teaching, service, research and community health, he has published over 450 scientific papers and chapters, received 31 named orations, the Dr. B.C. Roy Award for medicine (2006) and the Padma Shri (2007). He is the author of the bestselling books 'Diabetes with Delight', 'Diabetes ke Saath Khushaal Jeevan' (Bloomsbury) and 'Smart Calories and Common Sense'.
